Yachting isn’t all fun and games — many times yachties have to repeatedly turn down baby showers, birthdays, and weddings (much to the disappointment of our land-based family and friends).  However, if you’re a lucky crew member who managed to snag some holiday time off to attend a friend’s wedding, congratulations! So you’ve bought the flight, booked the hotel, and you’re excited for the celebration of the century. But wait – what about sorting out a tux/suit or wedding-worthy dress? With busy charter schedules and limited closet space, when does a yachtie have time to shop for something to wear that doesn’t come in the form of a bikini, t-shirt, or board shorts? Luckily, you don’t have to pay a crazy price tag for something you’re only going to wear once (then maybe put it in storage). Here are two yachtie approved services we think you’d like:

For the ladies: Rent the Runway

What is it? How does it work?
Rent the Runway allows you to rent top designer dresses for a fraction of the cost (think $200 dresses for only $30). Browse thousands of dresses from 250+ designers. Filter dresses, clothing and accessories by date, color, length, trend, size, occasion and more. Choose a delivery and return date, and rent for 4 or 8 days. The dress will be delivered via UPS or courier service (available in US only) to your home, marina or hotel by 8pm on your delivery date. Returns are free! Place items in the provided packaging (which includes a pre-paid label). Take the packaging to a UPS drop box or Rent the Runway store by 12pm on your rental return date. Dry cleaning is also included.

What if I don’t know my size or want to try it on?
Each dress features photos of real girls who have rented it before. Filter the photos by similar body type, height, and bra size to see how it fits on someone similar to you. A free backup size comes with each order, and you can add another dress option for a discounted price. If the dress doesn’t fit, just contact customer service and they will either send you another size, dress, or give you credit.

I’m a yachtie, I don’t have a shipping address. Where can I send it?
They ship anywhere in the US including Hawaii and Alaska. Try sending the dress to a hotel or a friend’s house a day or two before the wedding date so you can try it on first.

For the Gentlemen: The Black Tux

What is it? How does it work?

The Black Tux is the best way to rent a tuxedo or suit, especially if you don’t usually store one on the yacht. They provide suits to rent that would cost $1200 or more at retail. Browse complete outfits or create your own custom look. Your order will arrive via FedEx Ground 14 days before your event. If something doesn’t fit, give us a call and we will ship you a replacement in the correct size. Within 3 days after your event, place the pre-paid shipping label on the box your order came in and send it back to us.

What if I don’t know my size or want to try it on?
They offer a free home try-on option to test clothes for 48hrs (although it might not be possible with the yachtie schedule).  If you have questions about fit or need help nailing down your sizing, they have fit specialists at your service.

I’m a yachtie, I don’t have a shipping address. Where can I send it?
They ship anywhere in the US. Have your order shipped to the address where you will be exactly 14 days prior to your event. This will allow maximum time to try on the order and contact the company should there be any fit issues. Since most orders are delivered on a Saturday, send the order to a permanent address (either a friend or family member) you will definitely see before the wedding/event. They do NOT recommend shipping to a venue or hotel unless you are for sure going to be there exactly 14 days in advance.

Great, I’m in. What now?
Browse and reserve suits or tuxes at least 14 days in advance. If you need to order last minute, you’ll have to pay a rush fee. Cut off time is 4 days before the event, so don’t wait too long!
